Vanilla Planifolia variegated aka Vanilla Bean Orchid

Vanilla Orchids have long thick lanceolate succulent like leaves (the variegated varieties have either white or yellow variegated striping on the leaf). Each node has roots that will attach to a trellis, wall or fence as it is recommend to grow its vines in an up and down pattern to induce blooms which would eventually make the vanilla bean.

The grower that grows these uses a mix of half mulch and half potting soil. Vanilla orchids are both terrestrial and epiphytic so people that live in areas with low humidity may find potting soil doesn’t dry out as fast as the bark/soil mix. 

Here in Florida I have them planted in ground and they climb and attach to my trees and become epiphytic living off the trees/fences whatever I have it vining on.

These plants are rooted in a 4” pot.

We keep our plants as organic as possible using beneficial insect for pest control.
