Vanilla Planifolia aka Vanilla Orchid ‘Super Variegated’
Super Variegated Vanilla Orchids have long thick lanceolate succulent like leaves (the variegated varieties have either white or yellow variegation on the leaf). Each node has roots that will attach to a trellis, wall or fence as it is recommend to grow its vines in an up and down pattern to induce blooms which would eventually make the edible vanilla bean.
We grow these in a mix of half mulch and half potting soil. Vanilla orchids are both terrestrial and epiphytic so people that live in areas with low humidity may find potting soil doesn’t dry out as fast as the bark/soil mix. Here in Florida I have them planted in ground and they climb and attach to my trees and become epiphytic living off the trees/fences whatever I have it vining on.
